In light of the wildfires that spread throughout California late last year, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals’ Recreational Water Quality Committee has released a fact sheet providing guidance on the effects of such disasters on pools.

The paper provides guidance on what to do during the fire, afterward and how to clean up. It also addresses the impact of ash and fire-fighting suppressants.

Last year saw the state’s most harmful wildfire to date, the Camp Fire, which took 81 lives and more than 18,000 structures.

APSP’s RWQC offers this and a number of fact sheets free on its websites. Topics include various chemistry parameters, testing, certain recreational water illnesses and their prevention, proper disposal of acid wash water, pool winterization, regulations and certain technologies.

To access this fact sheet and others from the APSP Recreational Water Quality Committee, go to apsp.org/resources/information-bulletins.
