The APSP Energy Efficiency Coalition is trying to get energy-efficient pool pumps and motors included in federal incentives that encourage consumers to make energy-efficient retrofits.
With residential pools numbering approximately 5.4 million ingrounds and 3.5 million abovegrounds in the U.S., according to APSP, the savings could be significant. On average, $753 in cost can be trimmed annually just by replacing an old single-speed pool pump with an energy-efficient, variable-speed pump, APSP stated.
To get the point across, coalition members headed to Washington, D.C., to meet with Congress members. The group included Scott Petty, Hayward Pool Products; Jeff Farlow, Pentair Aquatic Systems; Joe Valentino, Speck Pumps – Pool Products; and Shajee Siddiqui, Zodiac Pool Systems.
Joining them on the trip was Rich Gottwald, CEO/president of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals. He said in a statement that besides the important work the coalition is trying to achieve, “it is also an example of competitors working together for the betterment of the industry.”
Jennifer Hatfield, APSP director of government relations, added: “It marks the third year this coalition has walked the halls of Congress, and all our meetings were extremely positive this year. What we are doing is making a difference.”
