The Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC), the group charged with updating the federal model code every other year, will meet next month to discuss the new version.

The group will meet Oct. 17 and 18 in Denver, in conjunction with the World Aquatic Health Conference.

The MAHC, which affects commercial aquatics facilities in jurisdictions that adopt it, is implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CMAHC suggests changes every other year, which the CDC has ultimate authority to accept or reject.

At the conference, CMAHC members will hear presentations and hold discussions on the 179 change requests that have been filed this year, highlights of which can be found here.

Voting begins Oct. 17 and runs for a month. In addition to participating in the CMAHC meeting, those hoping to sway voters can submit comments until the end of October. This will not result in changes to the individual change requests, but may sway how voters choose. Only CMAHC members can vote or comment.
