The first piece of advice I received from Vistage (an executive coaching organization) was to put together an organizational chart, at which time they stated that I had too many direct reports. When I started my business, everyone reported to me, but as my business grew I had not taken the time to empower others. As a result of that Vistage recommendation, I now have only four direct reports. I could not have grown to 350 employees without this organizational chart. —Keith Zars

Our employees are our single and greatest asset. As such, we have made significant investments in employee training: technical education, such as OSHA 30, for field supervisors; professional sales coaching and off-site workshops for sales consultants and superintendents; and employee participation within several pool councils. All have had a positive impact.
