In the Southeast, hot and muggy conditions can make even swimming pools unpleasant. That’s why homeowners are more likely to take a dip in the evenings. As a result, they tend to put a premium on landscape lighting.
This Louisiana project was no exception. Providing ample ambiance was a must, but doing so would present a unique challenge: The homeowner wanted a flat, clean surface leading to the pool. That ruled out any kind of vertical lighting source rising from the ground.
Pavers with a tile overlay are something of a specialty for Morehead Pools in Shreveport, La. And in this case, the architectural ground cover provided the perfect solution for low-profile lights. Brandon Brice, landscape lighting designer and owner of Red River Lights, also in Shreveport, came up with the clever idea of affixing surface-mounted LED strips under the tile overhang, casting a soft warm glow around each square.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing, and this presented a good opportunity, being a more modern house,” Brice says.
Smooth, round stones are flush with the tile, but are large enough to create gaps, allowing the light to shine through.
The paver lights are dimmable for mood lighting.
Even the base of the firepit is wrapped in light.
