The technology behind Biodesign started 11 years ago in Europe, but made its first debut in the United States at this year’s PSP Expo. Beach Sculpted Pools are designed to look and feel like beach sand without having loose sand.
The company offers a variety of colors and natural textures, all of which are installed using the same technique. It takes seven steps to sculpt a Biodesign pool. The process includes layering a geo-textile material, waterproofing liner, netting, and a blend of natural granulated quartz and non-toxic resin.
It took about two years of research to find a resin that was resistant to pool chemicals and the right sand to blend it with, says Fabio Bonetti, international business manager at Biodesign Pools. The manufacturer continued making improvements over seven to eight years after development based on field feedback on the installation process.
Application is simpler than concrete, says Bonetti, because it uses a smaller mixer and hardens in one day.
For U.S. builders interested in learning installation, Biodesign offers a build/design academy with instructions on how to install and maintain a Beach Sculpted Pool.
