As demands for sustainable design grow in the residential home, they have also extended to the backyard – as seen in pool decking – and to the swimming pool. Products such as solar powered heaters, LED lighting, self-cleaning systems, and smart technology have helped maintain pools in an environmentally friendly way. Now, requests for building a pool with sustainable materials and in a more environmentally conscious way has become a new trend among homeowners, including among vinyl liners.
“Customers are looking for options that support sustainability and circularity.” says Alex Grover, president of i2M and Swimmingly, a manufacturer of vinyl pool liners and supplier of Tara Manufacturing. “We want to provide a high-performance, sustainable alternative in the swimming pool liner industry.”
According to Statista, the green building market is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. Forty-four percent of construction professionals have stated that client demands drive green building.

To that end, Grover’s company has developed a series of sustainable vinyl pool liners that are made with recycled content called ReNew by Swimmingly. ReNew is manufactured in the United States with most raw materials sourced within North America. To promote circularity in the plastics industry, i2M has also launched the ReNew Champions Program, of which Tara Manufacturing is a proud partner. Through ReNew Champions, installers and builders recycle old pool liners by placing them into bins that are distributed by i2M. When the bins are full, i2M picks the bins up and recycles the contents into other PVC goods. It also recycles used vinyl pool floats as well.
“Today’s consumers are asking for options,” Grover says, noting that these questions have increased in recent years. “They want to know where the product is coming from and what makes it sustainable.” So far, ReNew is the only high-performance pool vinyl material with a certification for recycled content, according to the company.
“We continue to invest in research and development centered around developing a beautiful, high performance product, that happens to be made with recycled content.” Grover says. “We’re grateful for our customer partners like Tara Manufacturing for their collaboration and support as we make sustainability a reality in the pool liner industry. One backyard at a time.”
