A recent project exemplifies how Jan Moyer uses a landscape as her canvas and paints with light.
A couple with a home situated on a 6-acre property in Pennsylvania turned to the partner of New Jersey-based Jan and Brooke, Luminae, LLC, to transform their outdoor space from a dark, shaded area to a strategically lit landscape.
Here, we share some images that illustrate how Moyer met the clients’ request to capture the feel of the surrounding heavily forested area while achieving a design that effectively illuminates the backdrop.
The main house on the property is quite a distance from the pool, but the client wanted to see the pool and the adjacent pool house and enjoy the surrounding landscape, explains Moyer.
Even with the pool lights dimmed, she was able to create a visual destination.
A once-dark pathway to the pool is illuminated from above, creating playful shadows that make for a pleasant evening stroll for the homeowners and their dogs.
To achieve the patterns, Moyer placed fixtures featuring interchangeable lenses that create different beam spreads to shine down through the leaves.
Four waterfalls sit along a stream that flows from the back of the property past the house. To capture the scenic waterfeatures, Moyer down-lighted the waterfalls in a cohesive style using varying brightness levels, allowing the clients to have a clear shot of them from the home.
