Pool/spa equipment producer Zodiac Pool Systems has added the Grand Effects line of decorative outdoor fire and water features to its product selection.

The Vista, Calif. maker of automation, pumps and multiple other categories has purchased Grand Effects in an effort to add more premium-level products to its portfolio.

“New pool construction is an important part of our business, and there is projected growth in this segment,” said Troy Franzen, managing director of Zodiac. “By adding Grand Effects to our brand family, we are expanding our product lineup in a way that supports our customers.”

The acquisition gives Zodiac an opportunity to offer more products in the backyard-living category, he added. On the Grand Effects side, the transaction opens up a deeper cache of resources — from capital and infrastructure to relationships and sales channels. This will allow the brand to innovate and grow at an accelerated pace, said Grand Effects founder Kevin Doud.

The fire and water features will continue to be branded under the Grand Effects name. And while Franzen did not reveal any immediate plans to acquire other businesses, Zodiac is “always looking at opportunities that help us fulfill our promise to deliver the perfect pool experience,” he said.

Grand Effects offices will remain in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. No staff changes are planned. Doud will remain with Zodiac as its senior vice president of the Grand Effects business, and his team will remain in place, Franzen said.

In recent years Zodiac has acquired SAVI Pool and Spa Lighting, as well as Water Pik Technologies Inc., parent company of Jandy.

Grand Effects was founded in 2004. Its fire features include bowls, pits, tables and torches. Its waterfeatures include bowls, scuppers and planters.
