At first glance, the Vertex Day Bed looks like a comfortable place to lounge while the spa isn’t in use. But a closer look into its construction reveals a new type of cover that’s both environmentally friendly and practical.
Spa covers have been the same since the beginning of the industry, according to Jerry Greer, CEO at Core Covers. They have an EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam core, which is not an eco-friendly product because it doesn’t break down.
“EPS foam is also what causes 95% of all spa covers to fail,” Greer says. Steam comes off onto the EPS foam and damages the cover by breaking down its vinyl encasement.
Veretex is an inflatable cover made with drop-stitch fabric to prevent water absorption — a technology also used by whitewater raft manufacturers. Hundreds of threads per square inch make the cover incredibly strong and able to withstand a higher weight than traditional covers.
“Because the inflatable drop stitch bladder is so strong, it can also be used as a daybed,” says Greer.
Shipping is easier because it can be deflated and rolled into a duffle bag. Core is currently accepting orders now at a minimum order quantity.
