The clients didn’t have a big budget, but they wanted their pool to draw a certain amount of attention.

They live in a nice community on a man-made lake, where occasional boat parades take place. The homeowners wanted to provide some night-time eye candy to the paraders and, to a certain extent, keep up with the Joneses.

They liked the idea of a vanishing edge pool but didn’t think it appropriate for them. To provide a similar feel, the design team pushed the pool far enough back on the elevated lot so, from certain angles, you can’t see what’s on the rest of the property, and the pool seems to connect directly with the lake.

The clients and design team chose a Roman shaped model so they could have a spa on one side without interrupting the pool’s footprint. They raised it about 24 inches to ensure the shell sits 4 to 5 feet above the water table even during the rainy season. Brick pavers and coping maintained the traditional feel, while landscape lights around the raised wall created some intrigue for sailing onlookers.
